All school programs are $4.00 per student. Teachers and chaperones are free of charge. Students on Free And Reduced Lunch Program are free. Appalachian Days, November 6-9, 2007 This program is designed to meet 4th grade curriculum standards. This popular interactive education program gives students an opportunity to learn about the different aspects of life in the southern Appalachian region during the early settlement period of 1830-1840. Students rotate through stations involving hands-on learning projects such as toy making, visiting a general store, making an Appalachian craft, and helping with a common farm chore while hearing the true story of early settlers of Bradley County. This is our most popular program and sells out each year so book early . Meets State Curriculum Standards - Culture 4.1.04 and History 4.05.06. Stitches-In-Time Quilt Exhibit, January 31-March 22, 2008 Teachers may schedule their classes to see this popular exhibit on quilts from the region any time during the exhibit. Grade appropriate art and history activities will complement your viewing of over 90 antique and modern quilts from regional quilters. Civil War Exposition and Living History Show, February 28, 2008 This program is most appropriate for 5th and 8th grade students. Steve Gipson will once again presents his popular Civil War living history portrayal of two East Tennesseans, one fighting for the North and one with Southern loyalties and the struggles they have to reconcile their differences. The show emphasizes many different aspects of the War - its causes and its aftermath in an unforgettable performance that is both entertaining and fun. Meets State Curriculum Standards - History 5.5.01 and 8.5.18. Three performances will be held at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 12: 30 p.m. Book early as this sells out fast! River Of Time Exhibit, Anytime Teachers at any grade level are invited to bring their classes to the Museum to learn local history with a tour of the permanent exhibit, River of Time. This exhibit is a chronological and thematic overview beginning with our earliest Native American inhabitants up to the whitewater rafting events during the Atlanta Olympics. Topics covered include the Cherokee Trail of Tears, the early settlement of Bradley County, the Civil War, industry in Cleveland, education in Cleveland, and the impact of TVA and the Ocoee River. Following the tour, a grade level appropriate learning activity will be offered.
