Stitches-In-Time Quilt Exhibit - Sponsored by First Tennessee
The Museum's most popular annual exhibit of over 90 quilts submitted by
people from throughout the southeast for this judged exhibit. Both antique
and contemporary quilts are on display throughout the Museum. Special changing weekly display of
quilts means something new every week. The following quilters are featured
in the Lobby display:
Mar. 18-22:
Lavender Lime Quilt Store, Chattanooga
Also new this year is a Quilt
Challenge based on the theme of the Tennessee Valley in the Great Depression.
Fourteen miniature quilts were submitted for the Challenge and will be on
display. These quilts were judged for monetary prizes. Several of these
quilters have donated their quilts to be auctioned off at the close of the
exhibit. Viewers may bid on the quilts of their choice during the exhibit
and on March 31st we will announce the winners of the quilt auctions.
Workshops
and lectures will be held throughout the run of the exhibit every Saturday
including one children's class. Attendees must pre-register and pay to

March 22: Children’s
Story Telling and Crazy Quilt Pocket Class for ages 10 and up,10:00 a.m. –
Noon. $8.00 for members’ children, $10.00 for non-member’s children. Reservations and
pre-payment required by March 19th.
March 22: Lavender
Lime’s Sweet and Simple Quilts,10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. $25.00 for members,
$30 for non-members. Reservations and pre-payment required by March 14th.
Challenge Prize’s were sponsored by Jane
Easterly Designs, Joe Hooper Insurance, and Christi’s Fabrics. In-kind
sponsors for the exhibit were Kingsway Press and Lavender Lime Quilt Shop in
Chattanooga.

March 15
Missoula Children's Theatre: Robinson Crusoe
Watch the public performance that culminates a week of rehearsals by the
talented group of 60 children in the Cleveland/Bradley County area at either
3:00 or 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $4 for
children and can be purchased in advance or at the door at the Museum Center
Store. Missoula Children's Theatre is sponsored in part by grants from Allied Arts
Council of Cleveland, the Tennessee Arts Commission Touring Grant, and the Southern Arts Federation.
April 5 - May 17
Trace and Transformation: Paintings of Charles Brindley
30 paintings and drawings the Tennessee painter, Charles Brindley, of
landscapes, still lifes, and architectural scenes. This exhibit is sponsored
by Athens Federal Community Bank.
April 12
Gallery Talk and Tour of Exhibit with Charles Brindley
Tennessee artist, Charles Brindley, will talk about his paintings and
drawings in the exhibit. This is a great chance to meet this talented
working artist and learn more about this beautiful exhibit. Free to
museum members; regular museum admission for non-members includes talk and
tour. 11:00 a.m.
April 12
Learn to Draw from Nature with Charles Brindley
Charles Brindley will teach an afternoon drawing class for beginners and
more advanced students on drawing from nature. This afternoon workshop is
FREE. You must pre-register to get your supply list; no materials will be
provided that day. 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. Pre-register by April 7th and pick up
your supply list at the museum.
April 15
Spring Movie Series FOR MEMBERS ONLY - Wild River
Museum members can take advantage of this wonderful perk by spending the
afternoon with film expert, John Bradley, watching the classic film, Wild
River. Following the viewing, Bradley will discuss the movie and host a
question and answer period. The Spring Movie Series is a FREE event for
MUSEUM MEMBERS ONLY. 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. No pre-registration required, but
please bring your member card. Not a museum member? Call and join the
museum to attend this great members' only series!
April 17
5th Annual Volunteer Guild Luncheon - The Elegant Table
Annual fundraiser beginning at 11:30 for social time followed by a catered
luncheon. Elegant vintage "Tablescapes" will be decorated by volunteers and
placed throughout the museum as part of the theme for the event. Tickets are
$35 per person and $320 to reserve your table of eight friends. Reservations
and pre-payment must be made by April 11th. Sponsored by Ed Jacobs &
Associates and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Ed Jacobs, Financial
Representative.
April 17 - May 22
Learn to Draw Workshop Series
Local artist June Chase will offer a six-week beginning drawing class for
adults who have always wanted to learn to draw. Meets every evening from
6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Students will be given a supplies list and will be expected
to provide their own materials for class. The six-week course is $60 for
museum members and $65 for non-members. Reservations and pre-payment are
required by April 11th.
April 21
Bus Trip to the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville
Join museum staff on a bus trip to the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in
Nashville to see their exhibit, Monet to Dali: Modern Masters from the
Cleveland Museum of Art. Lunch will be on your own at the museum's cafe,
followed by time to wander this great art museum and shop in their store.
9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. $30 per non-museum members and $35 for non-museum
members. Reservations and pre-payment required by April 16th.
May 10
Children's Art Workshop - Blooming Paintings for Kids!
Cleveland elementary art teacher Susan Parks will lead a painting and
drawing workshop for children ages 8-12. Kids will study real flowers and
their shapes and then learn to draw and paint using oil pastels and
watercolors. All supplies will be provided. Just bring your imagination and
creativity! No special skills required! 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Cost is $6 for
museum members' children and $8 for non-museum members' children.
Reservations and pre-registration required by May 2nd.
May 20

May 31 - July 12
Ken and Kathleen Dalton of Coker Creek: A Basket Making Legacy
A retrospective exhibit of the baskets of Ken and Kathleen Dalton who helped
revive the basket making tradition in East Tennessee starting in the early
1970s. Both traditional oak split baskets and non-traditional baskets will
be on display. This exhibit is sponsored by Bank of Cleveland. Additional
funds are provided from an
Arts Build Communities Grant which is a program funded by the Tennessee
General Assembly and administered in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission
and the Southeast Tennessee Development District.
June 17

Joshua Coleman: Why Sculpture?
An exhibit of the contemporary sculpture by Cleveland's young, emerging
artist, Joshua Coleman. The sculpture will be placed both inside and outside
of the museum and will include interactive sculpture. A week-long children's
summer camp with the theme of creating sculpture is being planned. To be on

Wish You Were Here: Postcards of Cleveland and Bradley County
Drawn from numerous private collections in the community, this exhibit will
be co-curated by Mitchell Kinder and Bob George. Kinder and George are noted
postcard experts and collectors who will bring a wealth of knowledge to this
exhibit.
