This month, we are celebrating Tone Haugen-Cogburn as our featured artist of the month, and what a great time for a celebration! With this crazy weather we are having, it is already bringing out spring blooms here in Southeast Tennessee. It is beautiful, inspiring, and unique, just like Tone's artwork.

Tone is a longtime quilter and Fiber artist since moving from Norway to the US in 1987. She was reintroduced to the art of felt-making; this ancient craft has become very popular in the US as well as in Europe and Australia. Beautiful, vibrant colors and very soft to the touch, Merino wool has become one of the favorites, as it is very suitable for wearables. Its strength also makes it very useable for scarves, bags, throws and rugs. Combined with silk it creates "Nuno" felting, which again makes for a very durable textile to wear. Wool rowing can be shaped into almost anything with the help of simple tools, like water, soap and bubble wrap. Tone employs all of these techniques in her work. Most of the silks used in Tone’s pieces are hand-dyed, but recycling of old textiles is also dear to her heart and can be found in most of the pieces.

We invite you to come to the Museum Store to see and shop her amazing work! Tone will be in store Friday, March 16th for a Meet & Greet + a booth with her additional items for sale at the Museum Store.

Tone is offering 10% off

all her scarves the entire month of March!
