Museum To-Go
The Museum Center at 5ive Points can come to your classroom in several different ways. We have
trunk rentals to supplement and enhance your classroom studies. For full details about the programs please download our
Education Guide.
Trunk Rentals: Trunks that teach historic themes and concepts are available for rent by classes. Each trunk includes objects, as well as books/written materials, to use with your classes. A teacher’s notebook offers suggestions of how the included items may be used. Each trunk contains one designated item to be kept by the class for enjoyment after the trunk is returned. The trunks are designed to meet Tennessee Curriculum Standards.
Currently, there are two trunks available:
Cherokee Trunk: This includes early maps of the area, children’s books related to Cherokee life and lore, clay pots, arrowheads, wood flutes, masks, and other hands on items for children to use related to Cherokee life. Supplies for all the children to make their own talking sticks to keep are also included. The Cherokee Syllabury and books which give the Cherokee names for animals and people are also included. The trunk deals primarily with the Qualla Boundary (NC) Cherokees.
Appalachian Entertainments Trunk: Appalachia is often referred to as a land of “Make do, Make it yourself, or Do without.” This was especially true of leisure and fun times. Toys, games, and music were homemade. This trunk features
a wealth of activities including the history of Appalachian
settlement, music, and leisure games. Included in the trunk are a variety of Appalachian toys and games
for the students to try out, plus some great Appalachian music applications.
No music experience is needed for this trunk. This trunk was
designed by Julie Mitchell, a local 6th and 7th grade social studies
teacher.
