The “Confederate Treasury” (initially $10.5M in today’s value) plus the Richmond, VA, bank assets ($9M in today’s value) were stored in Washington, GA, but a portion was stolen on its way back to Richmond.  This robbery occurred on May 24, 1865 and is known as the “Midnight Raid at Chennault, GA” The equivalent of $3.6 Million (mostly $20 gold double eagles) is still unaccounted for.
