The Museum offers classes taught by local artists whose work is also available in the Museum Store. Classes are available in many mediums. All classes are Beginner-friendly; No previous experience necessary unless otherwise noted!

Ceramics: Make a Mug

SATURDAY, November 12, 2016, 9am-Noon

Learn to make a functional and decorative mug or tumbler out of clay with a hand-building method. (Work will be glazed and fired off-site; students can pick-up work a week after the class.) All materials provided!

Ages 8+, Children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult; Maximum # of students: 12

Ceramics class cost: $5 for Museum Members; $10 for Non-Members

Fused GLASS ORNAMENTS

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2016, 10AM-Noon

Students will be introduced to the process of working with glass: history, terminology, supplies, and melting glass in a kiln. Each student will choose one large (ornament) and two small (pendant) projects to complete during class. (Work will be fused off-site; students can pick up work a week after class.) All glass, embellishments, and supplies will be provided; glass is pre-cut. 

Age 13+, children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult; Maximum # of students: 20

Beach Glass Jewelry Design

SATURDAY, JANUARY 21, 2017, 1-3pm

Customize & create a recycled "beach" glass earrings and pendant set. Learn basic assemblage, wire wrapping, and connecting techniques to make endless jewelry designs. Example pieces may be replicated, or students can come up with their own designs as we explore different ways to use the materials and discuss how simple additions and changes can transform designs. All design materials provided - Students may choose from an assortment of recycled glass shapes and colors.  *Please provide basic flat, round, and cutter pliers for jewelry if you have them. Beginner jewelry kits may be purchased from craft stores in the bead/craft aisles. Instructor will provide a limited supply of tools for student use. 

Age 13+, children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult; Maximum # of students: 15

Beach Glass Jewelry class cost: $10 for Museum Members; $15 for Non-Members

Intro to Fiber arts

SATURDAY, february 18, 2017, NOON-4PM

Weaving can be described in 2 minutes, or a lifetime! For this class, Sherry will offer an overview including the tools, drafts (patterns), and "how-to" of this craft. Students will have an opportunity to weave on a floor loom as well as weave a small mat to take home.

Each student will need to provide: a cone(ball) of Lily Sugar n' Cream Super Size Cotton yarn in the color of their choice. This can be found at JoAnn Fabrics or Hobby Lobby. All other materials provided. 

Ages 14+; Maximum number of students: 6

Weaving class cost: $5 for Museum Members; $10 for Non-Members

WATERCOLOR SKETCHING 

SATURDAY, MARCH 4, 2017, 10AM-Noon

Students will create watercolor flowers using pen and ink as well as watercolor paints. We will also talk about various ways of capturing the world around you by sketching daily. All materials provided!

TRADITIONAL WIRE Jewelry DESIGN: Let's make earrings!

SATURDAY, APRIL 1, 2017. 9:30am-2pm (with short lunch break)

Discover how much fun traditional wire jewelry design can be while creating a beautiful pair of Victorian earrings that you can wear immediately! All materials provided: sterling silver wire and beads, your choice of Swarovski Crystal, Pearl and/or Gemstone beads, and tools.
