The Museum offers classes taught by local artists whose work is also available in the Museum Store. Classes are available in many mediums. All classes are Beginner-friendly; No previous experience necessary unless otherwise noted!

Hand built ceramics

A class dedicated to creating a one-of-a-kind ceramic work such as a mug, vase, or platter. (Work will be glazed and fired off-site; students can pick-up work a week after the class.) All materials provided!

SATURDAY, October 14, 2017. 10am-1pm

Students will choose an 18mm Swarovski crystal rivoli from the selection provided by instructor. All materials provided, and then discover how easy it is to create a stunning solitaire pendant by using traditional wire jewelry techniques with only a few hand tools and sterling silver wire. Each student will be able to wear their finished pendant out of class on a complimentary silk neck cord. (All necessary materials and tools will be supplied by the instructor, however if you own jewelry making pliers & cutters you may bring your own.)

Pottery Christmas ornaments 

SATURDAY, november 11, 2017. 10am-12pm

Participants will be given materials, tools, and instruction to make their own pottery Christmas ornaments.  If you have a special Christmas cookie cutter you’d like to use, please bring it! (Ornaments will be fired and returned to the museum gift shop for pick up a few weeks following the class.)

Students will create a unique watercolor using pen and ink as well as watercolor paints. We will also talk about various ways of capturing the world around you by sketching daily. All materials provided!

SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 2018, 1-3pm

Students will use high quality jewelry grade sheet metal blanks and customize them with patterns of their choosing and learn to use metal patina paint treatments, as well as basic wire techniques to embellish them with beads and drops. Students may choose to make one pair of earrings or one pendant necklace. All design materials provided - Students may choose from an assortment of recycled glass shapes and colors.  *Please provide basic jewelry pliers kit, which usually includes a chain nose/flat nose, round nose, and cutting pliers. Beginner jewelry kits may be purchased from craft stores in the bead/craft aisles. Instructor will provide a limited supply of tools for student use.

Intro to Needlepoint

Students will learn the basics of needlepoint and historic needle art and will have a small project to take home to finish. Students will need to provide their own wool yarn in colors of their choice.
